Head and Heart


My head is working
overtime again

Half of what it holds
rested in my heart

before fear exhaled
amber burning breath

forced me to inhale
smoke and ash and flame

I regulate my breathing
from behind a wildfire heart

The most beautiful look into a panicked heart I think I have ever read -- "I regulate my breathing/from behind a wildfire heart." That is an exquisite line...
